Host guide
For people who run live quiz sessions. ARENA is in beta (2026-11-05). This guide describes only what the beta build does.
Before you start: read Getting started with ARENA. To write the quiz, see the author guide.
1. Before the session
Set up like this: a laptop on the projector or screen share, and your phone or a second device in hand. This works in a webinar, a course session, a meeting or a room. ARENA does not connect to those tools, so you share the host console (or the join code or QR code) on screen inside whatever you present in.
- Write the quiz and give every question a time limit, or set a quiz default. A live quiz cannot start without them.
- Open Quiz settings. Under Modes and capture, tick Live sessions.
- Under Live player names, choose how players get a name:
- Players choose a nickname: players type one. ARENA checks it with a filter and refuses nicknames that are too long (24 characters), have characters that cannot be shown, or are not allowed.
- Random nicknames: ARENA gives each player a name.
- Choose Publish.
If you present over Zoom or a similar tool, you can turn on Presenting remotely later, from the console toolbar. See section 4.
2. Go live
- Open the published quiz in Quizzes. Find the Live session panel.
- Choose Go live. Studio shows Starting the live session, then the Game PIN, the Join link and a QR code.
- Choose Open host console. The console opens in a new tab.
The console link works once, within a minute. If it expires, choose Get a new console link.
If you see Your plan allows {limit} live sessions at once, end a running session first. If you see This quiz is not set up for live play, tick Live sessions and publish again.
Use a second device
- In the console, choose Use on another device.
- On the other device, open the address shown and enter the six-character code within ten minutes.
- Choose Open the session.
The window is titled Open this session on another device. A code works once. If you open the console on a second screen, the first shows This session was opened on another screen. Choose Use this screen to take it back.
3. The lobby
The lobby shows Join the quiz with:
- The Game PIN, six digits, in large type.
- Join at and the join address.
- A QR code that opens the join page.
- The name wall, with a count such as "8 players", or Waiting for players.
Players type the PIN at the join page, scan the QR code, or open the link. They need no account and no app.
To remove a player, choose Remove and their name on the wall.
Players who join by PIN with a nickname are anonymous. ARENA does not turn them into contacts.
4. Running the questions
The console shows only the buttons that make sense now. Each has a key:
| Step | Button | Key |
|---|---|---|
| Open the first question | Start | S |
| Close the question early | Lock answers | L |
| Show the answer spread | Show results | R |
| Show the standings | Show leaderboard | B |
| Go on | Next question | N |
| After the last question | Show podium | N |
| Close the podium | Finish | N |
| Pause and carry on | Pause, Resume | P |
| Give more time | Add 10 seconds | E |
| End for everyone | End session | X, then confirm |
Space or the right arrow takes the next step in the order above. Press M for presenting remotely, F for full screen, and ? or H for the list of keys.
A question shows {c} of {n} answered and the time left. When every active player has answered, ARENA locks the question for you.
After you lock a question, Show results shows Answers: how many players chose each answer, and the Correct answer.
Presenting remotely
Choose Presenting remotely (or press M) to shorten animations, use fewer particles and bigger type. Set a Player reveal delay of 1, 1.5 or 2 seconds, and players see results that many seconds after your screen. The toolbar also has Show questions on phones, a switch that puts the question on players' phones.
End the session
Choose End session. ARENA asks End the session for everyone? Choose End session to confirm, or Keep playing.
5. When something drops
- Your connection drops. The console shows Connection lost. Reconnecting to the live session. Players see Host reconnecting: the game waits for you. If the session paused while you were away, press Resume when you are ready.
- The console cannot reconnect. Choose Reconnect. If the link has expired, open the console again from Studio with Get a new console link.
- A player's phone locks or loses signal. The phone reconnects by itself, up to 15 tries, and the player rejoins where they left off. After that it shows Connection lost and a Reconnect button.
- A network blocks live connections. The player's phone switches to a slower fallback by itself. You do nothing.
- The session is full. The console shows how many joins were refused. Those players see This game is full.
6. The end
Choose Show podium after the last question. The console shows Podium with first, second and third place. Then choose Finish, which shows Thanks for playing, and End session.
Players see Final standings and their own place. When the session ends they see The game has ended with Join another game.
Anonymous players leave nothing in your CRM. ARENA's own workflow trigger for a finished session, Session ended, is coming soon. Until then, there is nothing to start a follow-up from automatically.
7. Limits to know
- Your plan limits how many live sessions can run at once. Go live tells you when you are at the limit.
- A session has a player cap. Players past it see This game is full.
8. Get help
Use the link at the foot of Studio, open the support channel, or email support@brandbeat7.com. We reply within 1 business day (Monday to Friday, 10:00 to 18:00 IST). Never send a player's name or email.
